In an unassuming spot in the Hamilton International Village, you’ll find the little white shop on the corner, Studio 205. Packed full of wares from the makers and shakers of Hamilton and the GTA, it’s an intimate shop with a big punch.
Studio 205 has everything you could want in a neighbourhood shop; handmade items from exclusively Canadian (many Hamilton-based) vendors, crafting workshops, and delicious coffee, espresso-based drinks and baked goods.
With Mother’s Day rolling around, 205 is going to be a godsend for those who still aren’t sure what they’re going to get mom…myself included! Carrying handmade items like cards and prints, jewellery, soaps and lotions, clothing, loose leaf teas and more – you’ll find something for even the most particular of Moms.
Some of the makers and wares include:
Nipa Ghandi Lifestyle hand-block printed textiles (Oakville, Ontario)
Open Fire Jewellery (Ottawa, Ontario)
Bailiwick Studios (Hamilton, Ontario)
3 Teas Loose leaf tea (Burlington, Ontario)
Topher’s Soap Company (Brantford, Ontario)
Little Rose and Co (Burlington, Ontario)
And so many more! With over 60+ makers’ goods carried in the store, there are oodles of things to browse while you wait for your warm drink to be made. (Nutella Latte or After Eight Tea latte, anyone?)
Studio 205 also offers their own HAMONTCAN line, clothing and accessories dedicated to the love of Hamilton, with a portion of proceeds going to CASP (Canadian Association For Suicide Prevention) in honour of the owners’ daughter, Ashley. Showing your love of Hamilton while you make a difference is something anybody could get behind.
With the crafting workshops they host, Studio 205 is branding themselves as the go-to place for handmade wares. Teaching customers about the work and effort that goes into each handmade item is a brilliant way to educate others on why you may pay a bit more for a handmade item. (Though, in my opinion, the price point at Studio 205 is fair, especially in comparison to other local, handmade shops that I’ve visited.) Workshops in the past have included a Macrame plant holder workshop and a Tote Bag workshop. Stay tuned to their Instagram/social media to find out about their upcoming workshops.
Not only is this weekend the ideal time to check out the adorable shop and buy your Mom (or yourself!) a gift, it’s also the Spring Fling on King Event on Saturday May 13th from 10am to 6pm. Many of the shops in the Hamilton International Village will be doing promotions and specials that day, so be sure to head on over and check it out!
