The coloured picnic tables outside will be the first thing to welcome you. Located on the corner of Airport road and Homestead Drive, is a modest building which was formerly Slices Pizzeria. This little joint now houses the latest restaurant in the Mount Hope food scene: The Pigeon Catering and Takeaway.
“Good food should be easily accessible.”, that’s their motto.
Owners Chef Matt Beasley (former Executive Chef of Equal Parts Hospitality and Chef de Cuisine at ONE in Yorkville/Toronto) and partner Jenny believe that “You don’t need a silver fork to eat good food. Sometimes, a place you least expect can offer dishes packed with as much palate-pleasing taste as any upscale bistro.”
In regards to the Mount Hope location, they say they fell in love with the space and the surrounding area, and wanted to be a part of a close-knit community. Chef Matt says “Mount Hope is a perfect fit for us as a young family of restauranteurs.”
Offering take-out meals like Sandwiches, Pasta and Rice, and Salads, The Pigeon makes for a great spot to eat large portions of homemade-tasting food without ever having to go near your oven. Think dishes like a Smoked Turkey Club on a Sesame Brioche, Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich, Gnocchi or Butter Chicken; the menu is small but varied, and what they do, they do it well.
Looking to try something new? They have new feature dishes each week; such as a ½ rack of Ribs deal, Pork Belly BLT, Bacon Cheeseburger and more. With a lot of regular customers, they love offering new items to help change up customers’ routines. All of their features can be found posted on their social media.

Eat your meal under the shade of the trees at The Pigeon’s outdoor seating area, then head over to Homestead Ice Cream just across the street for dessert. Plus, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is just down the street!
