With as much change as we’ve been experiencing in Hamilton in terms of the population, construction and development and everything else – it is nice to have some constants to rely on to keep us centered. One such constant is good music.
Here are some of the best Hamilton tracks that have come out recently. You will notice that all of these songs are drastically different in style and genre. That is the crown-jewel of the Hamilton music scene, right there. If you walk off the beaten path even a little you will find a kinds of amazing gems.
Pucumber Sasssquash Family Band – Svengali
Svengali is the latest single from one of Hamilton’s most unique bands. This track is excellent. It is off kilter and an adventure for the ears – all while that excellent bass work keeps the song moving and the momentum building. Pucumber are an incredible band that you should really see live to fully appreciate.
Ellevator – Hounds
Ellevator have been on the mission to become the next big band out of Hamilton and every release brings them closer to that goal. They are easily one of the strongest indie rock bands in Hamilton right now. Ellevator works on all levels: the musicality and production is so strong, the lyrics are beautiful, and Nabi’s singing is truly gorgeous.
Haolin Munk & Lee Reed – Deep Space Float
Deep Space Float is the first single off the upcoming ‘planetary jazz’ concept album that Haolin Munk are releasing in the near future. This track features Haolin Munk laying down a really cool jazzy hip hop beat and Lee Reed’s vocals. We’re used to hearing Lee in a more aggressive and traditionally hip hop flow and so it is refreshing to hear him slow down and deliver these lyrics in something that is approaching a spoken word style. The lyrics paint an intriguing image and the delivery draws you in and leaves you wanting more. The only thing wrong with this song is that it isn’t 8 times longer. Haolin Munk are incredibly talented guys and it sounds like they have a lot of interesting stuff planned for this upcoming album.
MOTËM – Elon Musk
Is it even a Hamilton music recap without an entry from our resident internet boy and creative powerhouse Motëm? Not on my watch. Elon Musk features a really good beat, amazing vocal delivery and a pet store! Literally, what more could you ask for? One thing to note is that Motëm is a prolific artists that pumps out one great song after another. He has released many new songs recently and they are all worth a look. Check out his YouTube channel for the rest.
SHADE – I Wear Leather
Formerly, Pet Sun, Hamilton’s SHADE have recently gone through a remix and a rebrand and have started playing shows and releasing music under the new name. SHADE, so far, sounds a lot like Pet Sun. The new sound is maybe a little grimier? Hopefully SHADE will release some more new music in the near future.
