Check out a roundup of some of the best singles that Hamilton area artists have released in the past few weeks. Turn it up! Did we miss your favourite? Let us know in the comments.
iskwē – “Little Star”
iskwē has intentionally released the video for “Little Star” around the one-year anniversary of two recent Canadian stories of injustice and disregard towards indigenous lives. Specifically, the deaths of 22-year-old Colten Boushie and 15-year-old Tina Fontaine. This stunning stop-motion video was done by Sarah Legault and is rich with symbolism and stunning visual storytelling. Hamilton is no doubt a cooler city since iskwē started calling it home.
BA Johnston – We’re All Going To Jail (Except Pete, He’s Gonna Die)
You wanna see Van Halen? If David Lee Roth is singing – the answer is yes! The unstoppable force of fun that is BA Johnston is gearing up to release his brand new album, “The Skid is Hot Tonight”, and he has a new single out that’s really got it all: Van Halen, magic mushrooms and excitement of travelling down to the Molson Amphitheater for a big show. Start learning the lyrics so you can scream them at one of his upcoming tour dates. Stream the whole album and check out his upcoming show listings over at Exclaim!.
Ellis – Something Else
One of the brightest rising stars Ellis (a.k.a. Linnea Siggelkow) has soared from height to height with praise for recent EP, “The Fuzz”, and the news that she’s signed to Fat Possum records. With gorgeous song writing and a voice that seems like it was sent to us from the heavens above, Ellis has been a most welcome addition to the Hamilton music scene. “Something Blue” is a song about how hindsight is a bitch. “The Fuzz” is being released on “coke bottle green” vinyl on March 22. You can pre-order the vinyl here.
Billy Moon – Big Black Hole
Big Black Hole is the recent single off Billy Moons excellent 2018 release “Punk Songs“. This video continues the impressive DIY work ethic that Billy Moon has become known for; the negatives, video footage and digital art were all created in house. Billy Moon is gearing up for an American tour that kicks off in March.
The Redhill Valleys – Living In Yesterday
The Redhill Valleys are some of the best country / alt-country musicians in this country. After being named runners-up at the 2017 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artists Showcase they have gone on to win hearts nationally and internationally. In 2018 the Canadian Country Music Awards were hosted in Hamilton and The Red Hill Valleys proudly represented our city. “Living in Yesterday” is a beautiful single.
Dirty Nil – Pain of Infinity
The excellent “Master Volume” album has given us another excellent single in ‘Pain of Infinity’. It’s only fitting that one of the best tracks off the album should have such a bad-ass video. The boys are currently continuing their relentless world domination plan and are winning hearts in Germany this month.
